Abreu (born in Portuguese, originally Abraham) was born in 1963 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He grew up in the Jewish neighborhood of Sao Paulo. The community had written many laws, but Abrau never obeyed them, and there was always the urge to stretch the boundaries.
Abrau was the lead singer of the Brazilian post-punk band Kafka, which was active in the late 1980s. After a few years he left the band for a long trip in India where he found and lost himself several times, and finally decided to come to Israel and start life anew.
