Alan Watts, the beloved British philosopher, acknowledged to an entire generation of Americans the wisdom of the East in the 1960s and even contributed to the formation of the “flower children” generation. He died in 1973, but his groundbreaking ideas continue to resonate even today and are even more relevant to our era than when we first lived.
Nir Smart, who translated many of Watts’s lectures into Hebrew, in a fascinating lecture on the teachings of one of the most important thinkers of the 20th century.
In the lecture we will look at selected excerpts from Watts’s lectures, discuss the essential differences between the Western world view and the philosophy of Eastern wisdom, and try to understand how this relates to the ongoing crisis in human-environmental relations.
