If you cannot imagine the connection between a hardcore gay magazine and Beatrix Potter’s famous bunny illustrations, you got to see Yuval Israeli’s art. Celebrating a gay party line week after week this guy is bringing the most imaginative (and slutty) art pieces as the official illustrator of Tel Aviv’s Har HaBait bar.

Yuval’s favorite subject is male nudes. “I often draw using  gay magazines’s old photographs, and sometime I work with live models.” What excites him in drawing or painting a naked man? “The eye contact, the embarrassment, and all the other feelings that only a human can have.” Let’s admit, that’s a great teaser for his new solo exhibition…

Yuval studied illustration at Vital Academy of Design – the art school later merged to the famous Shenkar institution. After his studies he started to illustrate newspapers, but he couldn’t really see himself doing it for long.

“I joined to HaTahana’s classic painting classes, and last year I continued at Shmezalel. We had a meeting every week, mostly outdoors. It was really inspiring to loosen up after learning so much about how to observe at the model, the whole drama of light and proportion and so on.”

This January a friend asked him to do the invitations for her gay party line at Har HaBait, a popular and cool spot in Tel Aviv. “Since then I illustrate the event’s promotion materials, sometimes with portraits of DJs, and often with cute nude guys.” – he says.

His manifesto: “The naked male body always made me curious. Clearly, I’m gay, and as I’m in a relationship for a while now, so drawing hot guys interests me than painting fruits on a table.” Some 50 of the best portraits (and butts) are on sale now at Yuval’s exhibition at the bar and specially for the event he painted a few portraits with oil paint as well.
