Lumina is a new, modern kosher bistro – a new venture by the chef Meir Adoni.
Like its sister-restaurant, Blue Sky, Lumina is situated in the Tel Aviv Carlton hotel, facing the gorgeous Tel Aviv Beach.
Lumina means light and the restaurant is certainly bathing in in during the day. Designed by Yaron Tal, the restaurant features a very light and bright style with lots of calming whites, open kitchen and clear windows that let in the sea and the Tel Aviv marina.
Stepping out of the elevator, the diners will see a buffet with ceramic dishes holding olives, a photogenic honeycomb hanging from a hook dripping with honey and clear jars with halva cubes and other sweets that put you in the foodie mood.
The menu created by chef Adoni for Lumina is his personal interpretation to an Israeli brasserie.
“Lumina’s concept is that of a Brasserie. It is eclectic and represent an Israeli Middle East. In Lumina I try to please and excite without pushing an education. My vision is to make food which bring the tourist, either Jewish or not, with traditional Jewish food, dishes from the Mizlala and classic Brasserie dishes”.
The menu is divided into four sections:
Jewish cuisine: with dishes such as Gefilte Fish, chopped liver, herring on hala bread, pickled tongue.
The Mizlala: star dishes such as brains croissant, Palestinian tartar, grilled Mullet with Freekeh, Ceviche.
French cuisine: dishes like toasted brioche with steak and foie gras, classic roast beef, fish and chips.
Deli: beef ribs, bone entrecote, choucroute with veal sausages, Ossobuco with couscous and vegetables.
The kitchen is run by chef Or Shapira, a veteran of the Adoni chain of restaurants having worked in the kitchens of the Mizlala and Blue Sky.
Lumina also features a cool little bakery which allow you to watch, in real time, as the pastries and sweet are made – a different experience from most restaurants.
