One of the new food stands that opened in the Shuk and this is the real deal. A Mexican family invites you into their kitchen with fresh ingredients pouring in from stalls. The strong colors will attract your attention immediately – and the dishes themselves are just as enticing! If you walk too fast you might just miss this stall. It’s about half way through the Shuk, where the road begins to descend while facing south west, the stall will be on your left hand side. Read more. An arepa is like a pita, but made from corn. Like a pita, it is stuffed with loads of great fillings, favourites include chicken and avocado (and cheese) and meat and cheese! The best arepas in the city are found in the appropriately named Arepas in food stand in Shuk HaCarmel. Read more.

Mamma mia! We were a little surprised when the Secret Tel Aviv community voted Pankina as the best restaurant in Tel Aviv, but when we went checked it out ourselves we totally understood why! The kitchens are managed by two Italian chefs with over 30 years of experience each, and you can really taste the passion that goes into preparing every dish. The ingredients are fresh, the atmosphere is very Italian, the service is great… and wow, that tiramisu! Read more. Two brothers making pizza like their grandfather did in Roma. Style quite similar to the Neapolitan style, relatively thin crust great balance of mozzarella cheese and super fresh tomato sauce. 26 Hamburger Gourmet takes the standard American burger, and gives it a gourmet French twist – ooooh lala! Instead of a boring bun, the burger nestles between a soft brioche. Instead of greasy fries, the burger comes with crunchy sweet potato frites. And instead of a tomato on top, check out some juicy foie gras. C’est tres magnifique! Modelled on a French deli, Delicatessen has a great selection of hot and cold food to take home in the beautifully decorated delicatessen downstairs, a sophisticated restaurant upstairs (open for breakfast and lunch), and tables to sit and drink a coffee and eat a croissant outside. Highlights (and there are so many) include a well-stocked fromagerie and charcuterie, delicious baked good and cakes from their sister shop The Bakery (the owner also owns The Brasserie), a quaint flower section, the best chopped liver in the city, and great pizza bases to make pizzas at home. Eyal Shani is an Israeli celebrity chef that has given Israeli food a new life! Miznon is probably the best of his restaurants. It’s very simple – meat in pita. Costs about 50 NIS for a sandwich, and you get as much free pitot, labneh, and tehina while you are waiting as you can eat.
