Burning Man’s Israeli offshoot, and now the second largest regional Burning Man after Africa Burns, Midburn is a special 5-day festival held in the Negev. Founded in 2014, 2015 saw a record 8,000 people attend. Self Reliance and Self Expression are key components – be yourself, be inclusive, and be self-dependent – the only thing you can buy on the playa is ice. This is not a music festival – there are no official stages – but camps host parties – and in the center of the playa are incredible art displays and a huge temple that is burned on the final night. Throughout the year there are usually reunions, with a big party in October.

The Desert Ashram

Amidst the wild desert lies the Desert Ashram, a place for meditation, freedom, and peace in Israel. The ashram is a spiritual center which hosts festivals, as well as spiritual and therapeutic workshops that take place every weekend. The place is run by the members of a vibrant commune of desert dwellers and Osho meditators. Their main festival is Zorba the Buddha – held twice a year in Spring and Succot – but they also have a lot of other festivals and retreats throughout the year.

Israel’s largest hippy festival, The Zorba Festival happens twice a year at the Desert Ashram in the Negev, in Spring and at Succot. Founded in 2003, the 5-day festival is a sensual meeting between Spirituality, Dance, Meditation and Music. This is a festival where all the edges meet – the great celebration of life, dancing, movement, music, deep yoga, the spirit of meditation and the silence of the desert. Between total ecstasy and therapy, that is where the magic happens. Healing and meeting with amazing people, open hearted encounters, connecting with oneself and with nature. Bring tents and 21+.
