TISHA B’AV: SATURDAY NIGHT & SUNDAY

What does it mean and what to expect

For those who are wondering, Tisha B’Av (the 9th day of the month Av) is the day we commemorate the destruction of the first and second temples that once stood in Jerusalem by fasting for a whole day. In Tel Aviv, some businesses are closed, schools are closed, public transportation runs (with limited schedule), and it is a normal working day for most of us. For events, on Saturday evening there is a public Candle Lighting on the Beach with TAIS and Inspired TLV hosts a pre-fast meal. Learn more about holidays in Israel.
