Climbing a few shallow steps to enter, you’ll pass relaxed customers enjoying comfortable seating on the front porch. Cross the threshold to find a warm, stylish indoor space, then notice the peaceful vibe, lending itself to conversation, laptops, a game of chess, or simply unwinding.
HaOgen is a welcome newcomer to Tel Aviv’s rich coffee-house culture, and it fits right in to this sophisticated neighborhood. Among the smart decor, you may notice the works of local artists displayed on the walls, some for sale. The owners occasionally host live concerts featuring local musicians, and also game nights to encourage community life.
While difficult to imagine accomplishing a good day’s work at some coffee bars, the atmosphere here promotes and encourages relaxed concentration, helped along by a friendly, unobtrusive staff; plenty of good breakfast and light-lunch items for nourishment; and music that has a quiet but energetic, positive quality.
The coffee itself is excellent, and locally roasted. My cortado had a rich, dark chocolatey flavor—perfect to my taste. And in an exceptional flourish of hospitality, the drinks are brought out to your table on beautifully treated-wood platters with a small cookie as accompaniment.
This is a great place to meet a friend for lunch, work on a project with a colleague, or just chill out with an invigorating coffee concoction in the middle of the day.
